And because it is 3.5 hours away from the beaches, it is a good stopping point if you want to break up a longer road trip. If you are heading from Atlanta (or anywhere northeast of there) to the Florida panhandle, and the 30A beaches that we know and love, then there is a good chance that your travels will take you through Columbus. The best part is that it is nestled up against the Chattahoochee River, which runs south, separating Alabama from Georgia before meeting up with Lake Seminole and then eventually making its way to the Gulf of Mexico in another one of my favorite towns - Apalachicola, Florida. It has a vibrant downtown area with a welcoming college town feel and there is no shortage of cute shops and unique restaurants in Columbus. We have been through Columbus numerous times and stayed there twice but I feel like we haven’t even scratched the surface when it comes to this city. But I giggle a little thinking that man, I must have really sold him on this place! It doesn’t surprise me though because I really did love it that much! We ended up having to cancel that overnight trip simply because it was a week before the holidays and we had so many things going on. In fact, I went on about how much I enjoyed my first stay at the Hotel Indigo Columbus, GA so much that Matt planned a birthday surprise trip there for me in December. Many of our mother-daughter weekend trips are centered around her swim meets and those have allowed us to explore some cities here in the southeast for the first time. In fact, don’t tell Matt, but she is my favorite travel buddy. As many of you know, Abby just turned 13 last week and I can hardly believe it! She is such a great kid and the two of us have had some really fun adventures together over the past couple of years. ![]()
